Since I started helping out at a no-kill shelter I've really had my eyes opened. Shelters do so much with so little. Help if you can.

If you can't volunteer, even simple donations like a bag of dog food or cat food, even just your newspapers, all help. Right now at the shelter I help at the things we need most are simple things like newspapers (for puppy kennels) and garbage bags.

The actress Pam Grier lives in Castle Rock and she does a lot for the shelters out here trying to get attention and encouraging donations of crates, etc. We get all our dogs from shelters. World has enough dogs in it already.

I think it's great if people can donate & fund big items like crates & beds. But small things help too - old blankets, sheets... even old rugs & fuzzy toilet covers make great bedding. Newspapers, a bag of clay litter for the cats (we have nearly 120 cats at our shelter - that's a lot of clay litter)... Or volunteer to help out occasionally on a Saturday. It's the little things sometimes!
