so come to find out, I need a new alternator AND plugs and wires... So Imma bout to be out a lil over a grand.... FML
yea, apparently ppl like to get paid for the labor they do... do they charge more if its an import that is harder to work on? Maybe I should call around for more quotes... I always use this garage tho..
Call around, that's crazy. And ask about cost of parts and if you can take them your own, sometimes that's cheaper
@AmyB, I called around and found the best deal on the parts, I'm taking them to the garage with me.... Of course its 5 and I can't get anyone on the phone now... I'll get up in the A.M. and call around about labor... I have a noon appt set with this garage... Hoping I can find someone cheaper, even if they can't do it till next week, I'm defiantly willing to wait, if I can get a better price. Thanks @Jmaygs you probably saved me some $$ , fingers crossed anyway =-)
What kind of car is it? The alternator on my Volvo only cost me $450 installed. The plugs and wires were another $150. Of course there were 10,000 other problems to drain my bank account in the next few months before I got rid of it.
I had this happen once and all they did was replace the wires. They said the battery just wasn't getting a charge. No alternator problem at all. Of course when it happened to me, it only took about 20 seconds from dim lights to dead engine out in the country at night. You got lucky not getting stranded.
Ive called a friend thats pretty good with cars, so I'm going to have him look at it first, he will probably have time to fix it before going out on the road again. Lucky I caught him home =-) I'm fairly sure I was getting ripped off on labor costs, better just find a different garage for future use =-/
