Hello to all of you smart people! I have a question... is it wise to claim yourself on your taxes?
The theory that if you claim 0 now and 1 during tax time, you get more money back. Thoughts?
When filing your actual tax return (Form 1040) I would absolutely claim yourself as an exemption, cause it reduces your tax. Up until a year ago, on my W-4 I claimed Single-0 so they would take the maximum amount of withholding out of my check so I would get a big refund at the end of the year when I filed my taxes.
@Lyndapoo is an expert. However, keep in mind that when you claim less on your W-4 to get a big refund, you are allowing the government to keep your money all year interest-free. I'd rather have my money throughout the year.
Awww, thank you @schoolgirlpam. She is right as well, if you claim 0 throughout the year, you will get a big refund, but thats your money that the government has been holding interest free. When I changed from single-0 to married-2 I just took the difference and started putting it in our savings account. If you ever have tax questions, @twitch or myself can help.
