Good morning. Playing with the new Eye-Fi update for Android this morning. I love being able to transfer photos to my phone!
So you have to own one of their cards in order to use the free app? That's a little silly.
I wouldn't think so. Doesn't the card in a camera work with an app on the computer? If so, then shouldn't an app on the phone work with an app on the computer without the need for a physical card?
I was just reading the FAQ and they say "Not at this time" for the paid app. Maybe it's in the works. That would be slick.
I decided against Eye-Fi when I read the reviews. They still don't have a way for camera owners to know when uploads are in progress or complete, so you never know when you can turn the camera off. Also, file uploads are done in batches, and if you interrupt a batch it starts all over, creating duplicates of your files. All in all, it sounds like more trouble than just offloading the files on a laptop.
Well, you need the card to put in your camera so that it works with the Wi-Fi. So that makes sense to me. My camera takes photos a million times better than my phone, so I prefer to use it, but I'm not always within range of my Wi-Fi Network, so I can use my phone to share photos now. I think that's the point of the app.
@Momotaroar If you're uploading photos on your computer via Wi-Fi, you know when it's done because there's an icon that sits in your desktop tray that shows it actually uploading. However, you can set up email notifications, I believe, with the Eye-Fi Center to let you know when it's done. It's almost instantaneous, though, so I'm not sure why you'd really need that.
Oh, there is also SMS notifications, as well. I don't use either, because they upload so quickly.
